VideoconferencingWhat it is?Videoconferencing is communication across long distances with video and audio contact. In Comenius projects this can enhance to know each other, to resolve something or to present the results to the partners.
"Real" videoconference facilities can be separated from using NetMeeting software with web camera, microphone and headset/loudspeakers because of used technique, roughly speaking.
[Later there will be information of these "lite technologies"] What we need to set up a videoconference?Technically speaking the basic elements to set up a videoconference are equipments, software and connections.
Having interest to learn to use new tools, software and their use, getting training and support to get familiarized with VC are quite important too. In addition you need a purpose and a plan why and how to use VC in a project work.
[More info: Choosing VC-system] VC with 3 - 4 different partners? It is possible to set up videoconference with more than one vc-system. When e.g. partner from Lithuania is videoconferencing with partner from Spain they have point-to-point connection. If another, third, vc-system will be involved from e.g. Finland then there must be a multipoint connection.
Multipoint connections allow you to have videoconference with more than one vc-system at the same time. Group vc-systems quite often have a possibility to set up 3 - 7 connections. Desktop systems need to use service that is called video bridge if the multipoint connection should be set up. What to do next?Define: what is your aim to be accomplished by using VC, how much money can be invest to buy and cover the connection costs, what kind of technology (IP/ISND) you can use. Then prepare to learn more or consult experts to do the decisions.
The guide (PDF) produced in INSET On-Line project is a good information package to familiarize more.
Note! Later you'll find here more information of how to use videoconference; meanwhile you can find same kind of information from the guide (PDF) named above.
